From the Arvada, Colorado Clan

New Year’s Greeting to all. We hope you had a wonderful holiday season and were able to celebrate with the ones who love you and take care of you.

We in the Rockwood family have been trying to keep the balance between staying busy and staying focused on work, school, and family.
Brandon started at Pomona High School this year as a Freshman. He has really stepped up to a more rigorous academic school and got great grades. In the fall he was on the Cross Country Team and moved up to Junior Varsity right away. He was named “Runner of the Week” for his hard work and dedication. He continues to run and is considering going out for track in the Spring. Brandon is still a sports fan and an avid Rockies and Nuggets supporter. Although, much to Lynn’s dismay, he’s decided he likes the Chicago Bears more than the Broncos (Tim kinda likes that!).

Andrew is a Junior in his Early College High School. He’s taking three college classes this year. His school offers Tae Kwon Do and he’s moving up in the ranks. In one semester he’s tested up two levels and now is a green belt. He continues with his music, mostly electric guitar, and is always trying new sounds and compositions.

Christopher turned four in May and had his first real birthday party, with three of his friends over– (yikes! - it’s started!). A big event for him was going to see Thomas the Tank Engine. He’s still in KinderCare and is learning a lot there. He starts Kindergarten next school year. Christopher took swimming lessons and LOVED it. The biggest problem was getting him out of the pool afterwards. He adores his big brothers and they are so good with him. He has the best of both worlds: only child for a week, then sibling for a week. Chris is generally good natured and loving. He likes trains, sports, music, air band with Dad, and plays well with others.

Tim spends a lot of time taking care of us – definitely a lot of work. He’s in his 19th year at St. Joseph Hospital. The hospital is erecting a new building and he plans to be in on the conference center design. He spends time volunteering for Andrew’s school, and helping out with Brandon’s sporting events.
Last fall, Tim was given the opportunity to play bass guitar for a band that plays a mixture of religious and classic rock music. He’s having a blast playing live gigs with the band. It’s been 12 years since he’s played in an organized group and he’s really missed it!

Lynn enjoyed the freedom of substitute teaching to take a couple of professional development classes (no contract jobs in this economy, so enjoy what’s given to you!) For the first time in years she got to have a garden. The boys all pitched in on the labor, sister Karen provided the materials, and the result was tomatoes galore. YUMMY.
Lynn’s summer gig was being a driving school instructor. She spent 25 hours per week as a behind-the-wheel instructor for 15 year olds. Christina and Steve gave her another grandbaby, little Miss Brooklyn.

We all got to go to an Eagles concert, and Tim and Lynn an Elton John concert. We also enjoyed watching our friends’ bands: the Brian Hornbuckle band & BluezHouse. Also, as many summer outdoor concerts as we could get in. We got a few camping trips in; at the annual San Isabel Reed family trip, at Golden Gate, and at Columbine.

We try to go to the zoo and train museum as often as we can, Lynn tries to stay outdoors as much as she can, and Tim tries to watch as many Nuggets games as he can.

We had more work done on our foundation, and got a new roof installed, sooo, we think we finally have a no-leak house. This is huge. Something we haven’t been able to enjoy for a few years.

Tim, Lynn, and Christopher spent a few days in Breckenridge CO. We relaxed, swam, hiked, and Christopher played his first round of mini golf. We spent Fourth of July eve at Dillon Reservoir enjoying the Air Force Academy Band and beautiful fireworks over the lake. The next day we watched the wonderful Breckenridge July 4th Parade and took in the Big Bad Voodoo Daddies concert in town. Over the same weekend Andrew and Brandon spent time camping with their Mom at Horsetooth Reservoir. They tried water skiing , ski boarding and played on the ski-doos. (Ask Andrew about his war wound!)

Please take care of yourselves this year and let’s keep in touch.

Peace.
Tim, Lynn, Andrew, Brandon, Christopher and Chester(woof!)
