Greetings from the west coast! Spring has arrived - it's raining, the daffodils and cherry blossoms are blooming and Kevin has had to cut the lawn!

We just recently returned from a family vacation in Varadero Cuba and thought we would share some pictures with you. We had a wonderful time enjoying the sunshine and beaches, the perks of an all inclusive, and family time filled with laughter and fun. We had heard that you don't go to Cuba for the food, but Brad and Mike proved that wrong when they discovered that ice cream was available all day long. Here they are digging in - for perhaps the third - or fourth time that day??!! Needless to say, since returning home we have all had to work a little harder to get comfortable in our 'normal' clothes once again. Several evenings we got dressed up - as dressed up as you get on vacation - and enjoyed dinner at the a la carte restaurants at the resort. We even had fondue one evening - a family favorite.

Just in case you are wondering about the extra two people in this picture - some friends joined us for our vacation and added to the laughter and fun!
We did a day trip into Havana and found this to be a most interesting, enlightening adventure. The little taste of life for the Cuban people, the sights and the smells we experienced all caused us to realize again how blessed we are to live in a country where we enjoy freedom and abundance. We are truly blessed.

As you can see, Kevin really tried hard to fit in with his surroundings! One evening he even joined a Cuban band playing in the lobby! He can shake those maracas with the best of them! When Brad joined him on the bongo drums, it really got interesting. We only have a video of this event so will leave this scene to your imaginations! The Cuban people who were working at the resort were very gracious and certainly know how to have fun!

Since returning home, we have gotten back into our busy lives. The kids are all very busy in their jobs and various activities and us old guys just try to keep up! The insurance is on the bike and we are hoping for some sunshine and warmth so that we can get out on it once again. We are looking forward to James and Gayle joining us on their bike somewhere along our vacation route the end of May - should be fun!
Happy Easter! We rejoice in the life that we have because of this glorious event!
Blessings!
Kevin and Ruth

How did you ever pick Cuba? It sounds like you had a wonderful time. How great that your whole family got to go. Can you help me out with restaurant suggestions in Vancouver?- Melody

Hi Melody - We did have a wonderful time!! Kevin picked Cuba - we knew we wanted sunshine and everybody goes to Mexico! It was a great choice - being Canadian helped!
Restaurants in Vancouver - where do we begin! If your friends are in Vancouver city - there's good ones everywhere! A couple of our favorites are Seasons (in Queen Elizabeth Park), The Cannery, Red Door, any Boathouse is good. Random recommendations - Rodney's Oyster House in Yaletown - Bridges on Granville Island - and the island is a fun place to visit. If they happen to be in Richmond - Pajo's fish and chips on the dock in Steveston is fun, but there are several other good restaurants in Steveston that are also good - Georges Greek is a favorite of our kids. Also in Richmond there are excellent Chinese restaurants on every corner - Sun Siu Wah and Gala Seafood are a couple of our favorites. In West Vancouver Salmon House on the Hill is excellent - both the food and the view. In Burnaby, Horizons on Burnaby Mtn is also has good food and view. I could go on and on..........if they google restaurants in Vancouver they will find almost an endless list of every type of cuisine in every price range.
It was great to read about your family recently - sounds like you are all well and busy!
If your friends need anything when they are in our area - we would be more than pleased to help. Feel free to pass on our contact info.
Blessings! Kevin and Ruth
